Mini Crates - A Growing Business!

Bunches, first established in 1989, is one of the UK’s leading online retailers of fresh flowers, plants and other gifts. They utilise a supply base from different countries and approached WoodenBox UK in late 2014 to see if we could provide a competitively-priced alternative to their existing plastic-lined wooden crate used for various gifts in the range.

After a couple of samples, the crate itself was very simple to provide but providing a plastic lining was something that we had never previously experienced. Using our own extensive supply network, we were able to find an appropriate lining and our team of experienced  assemblers were able to learn a new skill in gluing the liners into position.

Eighteen months on and we have now supplied well over 10,000 of these units in more than one colour.

Bunches experience a number of high seasonal peaks in demand and WoodenBox UK has been able to work with them to ensure a safe and reliable source of supply.

This is truly a ‘growing’ business!

Bespoke Design and Print from WoodenBox UK

As WoodenBox UK is a UK manufacturer of wooden packaging and retail displays, we are able to respond to a customer's requirements very quickly.

Taking the client's brief, we are able to make printed samples within a few days, before going into full production.

The example here shows a concept for a greetings cards retail display for Sophie Morrell based on our rustic wooden crates. The client wanted a rustic looking modular shelving system to highlight their unique greetings cards. This picture is from their recent stand at the Top Drawer London exhibition at Olympia.

The show provided Sophie Morrell with many new vendors for their card range, most of which have invested in the shelving displays as well.

Kalender Haus - a new idea in Advent Calendars

WoodenBox UK was recently asked by online retailer Clever Gretel, to produce a bespoke printed version of its three bottle sliding lid box to house their new idea for advent calendars - Kalender Haus.

It's a great idea that gives the family something creative to do together in the build up to Christmas. You make your gingerbread house from the kit supplied and then add a decoration every day throughout advent.

The outside of the box needed to look festive and has been printed on all 4 sides and the lid with a winter scene, with the inner walls and dividers printed with a festive pattern.

After samples were made and approved, we went into full production and the finished product is now available to buy on the Clever Gretel website - www.clevergretel.co.uk

Porter and Woodman Turns the Winter Blues Green!

As part of Porter and Woodman’s ongoing investment in a greener future, the recent refurbishment of its Stourbridge premises included the purchase of a Biomass Waste Burning System.

The aim of this investment was to improve the carbon neutrality and efficiency of the business, adding to its existing environmental policy, which includes efficient waste management and the sourcing of FSC materials for its wide range of products.

The biomass burner has contributed greatly to this ambition, taking wood waste that would have gone to landfill and turning it into energy to heat the 10,000 sq. ft production facilities through the winter months.

The Group’s two main manufacturing businesses, Chalkboards UK and WoodenBox UK benefit from the new installation as they produce over 400 Kg of wood waste daily between them. It means that 104 Tonnes of waste a year is not going to landfill - the equivalent of over 130 Mini cars every year; and no gas is being used to heat the facilities in the colder months.

The elimination of landfill, reduction in the use of gas and the fact that the biomass burner complies with the latest Government emission regulations, means that Porter and Woodman Group is well on its way to achieving carbon neutrality and is looking to the future for the company and the environment as a whole.
